Can you offer Dexter a new home?
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: 1 year 1 month.
Time with us: 5 weeks.
Sweet and sensitive Dexter is looking for an understanding owner who can help him remember what it's like to be loved. Dexter had been a long term stray and was found with a suspected bite wound on his paw. The poor boy was limping and feeling so sorry for himself when he first arrived but after a course of antibiotics he's all better!
Dexter has obviously had to learn to fend for himself and has been in survival mode for quite a while, so he does sometimes panic and get a little defensive. However, the real Dexter soon comes out as he relaxes and shows off what a loving and affectionate side he has. He loves to nuzzle and bury his head into the crook of your arm for a fuss and is generally a really lovely boy to be around.
Dexter is definitely not a wild/feral cat, but it's probably been a while since he was in a loving home environment, so may take a little longer to let down his guard and settle in. He's been with us for 2 weeks now and the difference we've seen has been amazing, so we've no doubt in a home he will go from strength to strength.
Dexter would be better in a quiet home where there are no children under teenage years, as he can get spooked easily and revert back to his defensive ways if he feels threatened. He'd be fine with older children/teens who know to be calm around him and give him lots of space. He has been very submissive with other cats he has met at the animal home so for this reason we think he'd settle well with another cat after careful introduction.'
