Can you offer Loki a new home?
Breed: Cross Breed
Colour: Black
Sex: Male
Age: 11 months.
Time with us: 12 weeks.
Loki is a young lad looking for someone to give him guidance and consistency to help him thrive.
He's a 9 month old Labrador cross German Shepherd with the goofy charm of a Labrador and the brains of a Shepherd. He's curious, clever, and full of personality, and he wants to find a special person he can build a deep and lasting bond with.
Once Loki trusts you, his wonderful nature shines through. He a playful lad but he tends to get a bit obsessed with squeaky toys, so we're focussing on other ways to entertain him, like sniffing games and searching for treats, which gives him the mental stimulation he needs in a more positive way.
Loki has had a tough start and hasn't had much consistency or guidance, so he can sometimes feel unsure and confused. We're working on helping him feel safe and building his confidence up, so his new family will need to continue working on this.
He's still full of puppy energy and can jump up and mouth when he gets overstimulated. We're trying to teach him to keep his paws on the floor, which he's starting to understand, but he's still young so he sometimes gets overexcited and forgets! He has shown some resource guarding behaviour, and we will discuss the details of this with potential adopters, so he needs an experienced family who can give him the time and consistency he needs to overcome it.
As we've gotten to know him, we've learned that the more he trusts his human, the less worried and protective he is. He's a very smart boy with a strong positive reward drive, so he wants to keep his mind busy with continued training and brain games in his new home.
Loki needs someone who is happy to take things slowly, build a strong bond over time, and give him the consistency he's never had. The more he trusts you, the more his sweet, loving nature shines through, and it's absolutely worth the effort!
We think Loki would prefer to be the only animal in the home, though he may be able to share his home with a well-matched canine friend. He needs an adult-only home with no visiting children, and someone around a lot to provide consistency and companionship.
Loki hasn't had the best start, but we know he will flourish in the right home and be amazingly rewarding for a family who can give him the time and attention he deserves. We would also offer some ongoing support and advice as Loki settles into his new home.
